Multi-Engine Instrument Class Rating

Course Description

This course is designed for flight crew requiring initial Multi-Engine Aeroplane Class Rating (CLR-MEA) training. Upon completion of this course the student will have the necessary knowledge and skills to demonstrate that they are competent in the operation of MEA under visual flight rules (VFR) by day.

7 day program, including:

  • 2 Ground School theory days
  • 1 Flight Simulator (AATD) session
  • 4 in aircraft flight sessions
  • 1 in aircraft flight session for assessment 

Pilots will be training using our onsite FRASCA Seminole Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD). Aircraft sessions will be conducted in our Piper PA-44 Seminole at Flight Options Sunshine Coast.

Ground School theory includes:

  • Underpinning knowledge
  • General operational knowledge
  • Aircraft systems
  • MEA characteristics
  • Technique and procedures
  • Abnormal/emergency operations

Flight Training includes:

  • General handling and circuits
  • Asymmetrics
  • Critical and safety speeds
  • Asymmetric circuits
  • Class Rating MEA Flight Test

To be eligible to commence the Multi-Engine Aeroplane Class Rating, you must hold at least:

  • CASR Part 61 Flight Crew Licence – PPL, CPL, ATPL or a certificate of validation of equivalent overseas flight crew licence
  • Current Civil Aviation Medical Certificate
